Nagpur: Over 100 women barged into the office of Central Nagpur MLA Vikas Kumbhare at Golibar Chowk area and had a sit-in strike for more than an hour. They then resorted to a ‘rasta roko’. The police had to do a mild lathi-charge to clear the agitators who were protesting a water crisis in the area. The Tehsil police detained three residents under Section 135 (unlawful assembly).
The NMC’s water works department said the residents of the locality were not getting water for the last five days. “Neither the NMC nor the Orange City Water had made any alternative arrangements, ” said Rafique Aziz, a resident of Timki.

Before going to Kumbhare’s office, the residents also went to the local corporator’s house and shouted slogans.

According to the residents, the OCW had laid 600mm 1.5km pipeline on Timki Road and to commission it the water supply in many residential areas of Prabhag number 8 was shut on June 29. “But the supply has not been resumed so far,” said the residents.

The areas which were affected were Salim Lodder Road, Haji Sirajuddin Lungewale lane, Kamal Baba Darba periphery, Masun Shah Takiya, NMC office, Takiya Diwan Shah, Bhankheda, Timki road, Muslim graveyard road, Amanullah Mosque and Dobi Nagar road. Tehsil police station’s PI Vaibhav Jadhav is looking into the matter.
