For the first time in Hyderabad Karnataka region, the latest dental implant technology will be inaugurated at Khaja Bande Nawaz Institute of Medical Sciences in Kalaburagi on Tuesday. The new technology drastically reduces the duration of the treatment and helps avoid bone grafting procedures in case of severe bone loss.
P.S. Shankar, Medical Director of the institute, and Mohammad Ali, HoD, Dentistry, said in Kalaburagi on Monday that the latest dental implant technology known as ‘Basal Implant Technology’ would be inaugurated by the President of the Khaja Education Society Syed Shah Khusroo Hussaini as part of the Doctors’ Day celebrations at the institute.
Months to days
Dr. Ali, who is an expert in dental implant technology and has trained under the guidance of Vivek Gaur of the International Implant Foundation at Hyderabad, said Basal Implant Technology reduces the time taken for completing the procedure from four to six months that is often taken in the case of conventional implant technology to just three to six days now.
Minimal surgery
Basal Implant Technology also adopts minimal surgical procedure. This is one of the major advantages of the new technology as it contributes in completing the procedures early.
Dr. Ali said that using conventional implant technology, the flap is opened surgically to fix the problem of bone loss before the implant screws are placed. This results in the loss of blood and trauma to the patients. “Basal Implant Technology does not require the bone crafting in case of bone loss,” he added.
Incidentally, the two dental colleges in Kalaburagi and other dental colleges in the entire Hyderabad Karnataka region do not employ the procedure using Basal Implant Technology as it requires highly trained doctors to be conducted . None of the private clinics also have this procedure and continue to carry out procedures using conventional implants.
Subsidised rate
Dr. Ali said that the complete implantation is done at a highly subsidised rate. Patients are only charged the material cost and surgical material cost. On the other hand, conventional implantation in private clinics costs around ₹5 lakhs.
