CM releases book by IPS officer

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday released a Punjabi book titled ‘Alharh Umran Talakh Sunehe’, penned by the IPS Officer Gurpreet Singh Toor, based on his experiences with drug addicts. A spokesperson said that the book was based on Toor’s personal experience and interactions especially with the youth involved in drug cases during his various field postings in the Police Department. Toor, currently posted as AIG (Counter Intelligence) at Ludhiana, briefed the Chief Minister about his book which primarily focuses on his personal interactions with drug addicts and their families, besides visits to the vulnerable areas, jail premises and de-addiction centres to have an inside view of the problem. Toor said that he had written this book with the objective of creating awareness against drug abuse.

Aadhaar services get closer to city residents

Chandigarh: Availing Aadhaar services have become more convenient and more accessible for residents in UT Chandigarh. As per an official spokesperson from UIDAI Regional Office Chandigarh, Aadhaar services are now available across 55 centres in UT Chandigarh. This includes 27 Bank Branches, 23 Sampark Centres and 5 Post offices. The residents can  avail Aadhaar services such as Aadhaar enrolment or want to update information in their Aadhaar like   update/correction in Name, Address, Mobile number, photograph or full biometric update, can walk in their nearest Bank Branches,Sampark Centres or Post Offices in Chandigarh. Enrolment for Aadhaar is free of cost while residents have to pay Rs 25  for any updation in Aadhaar. Resident can get black & white copy of e-Aadhaar, by paying Rs 10.

Rana Sodhi congratulates Hockey team

Chandigarh: Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi has congratulated the Indian men's hockey team for exceptional performance in the last edition of the Champions Trophy held in Breda (Holland). The team lost the final to Australia in a nail biting finish and won the Silver Medal. The Minister said that it is the 2nd time in the history of the tournament that the Indian team has won the Silver medal. Calling Champions Trophy one of the most prestigious tournaments, he said that only top 6 placed teams got a chance to participate in the tournament. The Minister exhorted the team to continue good performances in the upcoming event such as the Asian Games-2018 in Jakarta and the World Cup 2018 to be held in Bhubneshwar (Odisha) and wished all the best to the players.

SIC declares Thapar varsity as public authorities

Chandigarh: Punjab State Information Commission has declared Thapar University Patiala as “Public Authorities” and directed them to provide the required information to the appellant within 30 days after receiving the orders.  Disposing off a appeal, filed by Dr. (CA) Bindu Bhardwaj of Panchkula, SS Channy Chief Information Commissioner and Yashvir Mahajan, State Information Commissioner ordered that " 2(h)(d)(ii) of theRTI Act thus we accordingly declare these institutions as “Public Authorities” with the direction to the University  to part with the information asked for within 30 days to the appellant after receiving copy of orders ."

Obesity and diabetes on the rise in Tricity

Chandigarh: Several Body Mass Index (BMI) check-up camps at IT park Chandigarh in different IT firms have brought out that obesity and diabetes is on the rise among IT Professionals. During the camps conducted under of Aashima, Dietician, Paras Bliss Hospital, for BMI camps it was found that the most prevalent disease found doing BMI are obesity and diabetes.

Paudhmela inaugurated

Chandigarh: On the occasion of Van Mahotsava-2018, the ‘Paudhmela’ was inaugurated by Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher at parking place near Sukhna Lake club. Three stalls of Forest Department, Municipal Corporation, Horticulture wing of Engineering Department are stationed there. Forest Department is distributing saplings free of cost whereas other departments are selling at nominal rate depending on species.  

Blood donation camp organised

Chandigarh: State Bank of India in association with Blood Bank Society, PGIMER organised a blood donation camp on July 2 at North Hall of its local head office in Chandigarh, to mark “Circle Foundation Day”. The camp was inaugurated by Rashmi Singh, President, SBI Ladies Club, Chandigarh. 197 units of blood were collected.

Hry invites nominations for Padma Awards

Chandigarh: Haryana Government has invited nominations for the Padma Awards (Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri), which are among the highest civilian honours to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day, 2019. A spokesperson said that a written communication addressed to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners by the Chief Secretary stated that nominations should be submitted to the State Government on prescribed Performa by August 10 so as to enable the committee of the State Government to identify, consider and finalise their recommendations before sending it to the Centre.
