It was a record June for the automaker overall as U.S. deliveries surged 15 percent, extending its streak of consecutive monthly sales increases to 79.

Even without the Ascent, Subaru would have posted a gain of 11 percent in June.

Subaru sold 16,071 Outbacks and 14,360 Crosstreks, which both had their best Junes ever, the automaker said.

Total sales: 59,841, a 15% increase.

Notable nameplates: Outback up 15%, Forester down 9.6%, Crosstrek up 84%, Impreza down 2.2%, WRX/WRX STI down 12%, Legacy down 16%, BRZ down 26%.

Average transaction price: $27,704, up 0.7% from a year earlier, according to ALG.

Quote: "Initial sales of our all-new Ascent SUV are strong and we expect further sales growth from this vehicle over the next few months as inventory continues to build," Jeff Walters, Subaru of America senior vice president of sales, said in a statement.
