The Trump administration reportedly just rolled back some affirmative actions guidelines for college admissions. According to The New York Times, the Justice Department rescinded seven policy guidelines Tuesday from the Department of Education's civil rights office.
The Times reports the administration wants schools to use "race-blind admissions standards." The previous guidance from the Obama administration recommended a path for colleges and universities that wanted to consider race when reviewing admissions.
In 2016, the Supreme Court upheld that practice, saying there is a benefit to diverse universities. The Trump administration dropped a hint last year that this change was coming.
In August 2017, The New York Times obtained an internal Justice Department document that directed resources toward "intentional race-based discrimination" investigations.
