MUMBAI: The heavy rain that lashed Mumbai since Monday evening has claimed two lives. While an unidentified man drowned in a drain at Bandra (W) on Tuesday morning, a 35-year-old man died when a compound wall crashed near Ghodbundar Road on Monday night.

The city received 131mm of rain in the 24 hours ending 8.30am Tuesday, making it the second wettest monsoon day this year. Nearly half of the flights at Mumbai airport were delayed on Tuesday due to bad weather. Several schools remained shut while other suspended the second shift. Colleges also saw poor attendance. Mumbai University, which had six exams, announced a re-exam for those who missed them. With several areas getting water-logged, train services were delayed while vehicles crawled on roads.

The scenario is likely to be similar on Wednesday as the Met department has forecast another day of heavy rain.
