BHUBANESWAR: Vigilance Forest Unit, Cuttack, and staff of Athagarh forest range raided Dhurukudia village under Athagarh police limits and seized timbers stocked illegally.

Acting on a tip-off, the officers conducted a raid on June 30 and recovered 21 pieces of round timbers (mango and shirish) from a mango orchard near Dhurukudia village pond. Vigilance Forest Unit sleuths found out that the timber was kept for smuggling, following which they seized 21 pieces worth `88,230.

Vigilance Forest Unit, Cuttack and staff of Athagarh Forest Range later conducted a raid at Tomka Forest Range and waylaid five trucks while illegally transporting granite chips worth `48,17,260. Athagarh Forest Range officers have registered a case.
