Important residential colonies in DVC area of the Bokaro Thermal GM such as colony Six Unit, Nisanhut, and Ambedkar-nagar are forced to live with roads giving nightmarish experience to residents and motorists. The roads are filled with potholes and have uprooted top layers.

Authorities maintain though that the roads, except few, were repaired about ten years ago. With elected representatives and DVC officials paying little attention to carry out repair and maintenance works, the pathways have suffered extensive damage, said an employee of DVC, BTPS.

While DVC officials said that the civil department has no fund for repairing the colonies road. Meanwhile the DVC BTPS recently have given Rs 1.20 crore to district administration under the CSR, sources said.

Stating that the roads had become unfit for smooth ride within a few months of formation apparently due to poor quality, a resident said that they had failed to withstand even a single rain. “Since then no repair or maintenance work was taken up. The DVC authorities are responsible for the poor condition of roads,” said a DVC employees since private house holders dug roads to take drinking water connections to their newly constructed houses and the officials keep mum which had damaged the roads of colonies.

“We find it extremely difficult to drive two-wheelers due to the poor condition of the colonies roads. Besides causing body ache, two –wheelers often face problems,” said he.

Pointing out the absence of inner roads since the formation of residential colonies, the residents said their sufferings double during monsoon periods.

Meanwhile local DVC employees said that several representations were sent to civil officials of DVC demanding repair, rehabilitation of roads and formation of inner roads, their demands were yet to get proper response.
