Legal action against Tito after probe: DGP

A day after being injured in an encounter with the Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF), notorious gangster Tito alias Syed Usman Ali and his several associates were formally arrested, informed DGP Dr RP Sharma on Sunday.

“We are now investigating about his links, crime syndicate and his involvement in various crimes. Legal action would be taken after a detailed investigation is over,” said Sharma.

Meanwhile, Tito is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack after he sustained bullet injuries on his left leg in the encounter near Chandikhol on Saturday.

Sources said Tito was trying to evade police dragnet for the past few days as He was unable to bail in connection with several cases pending against him.

Acting on a tipoff, a STF team led by DIG Himanshu Lal conducted raid and nabbed him after an encounter near Chandikhole of Jajpur district.

Later, Crime Branch ADG Santosh Upadhyaya informed that six associates of Tito were also arrested and two pistols and weapons were seized from their possession.

More than 100 cases including tender fixing, extortion, murder and other crimes are pending against Tito in different police stations of the State. He was also allegedly involved in the attack on terror suspect Abdur Rehman’s brother at Jagatpur in Cuttack.
