15-year-old girl goes missing, cycle found

LUCKNOW: A 15-year-old, Class 11 girl was reported missing from Indiranagar on Saturday evening. A missing complaint was lodged by girl’s parents with the Ghazipur police station. The girl, Mahi Verma, a Class 11 student of Mahanagar Girls’ Inter College, had left her Indiranagar-A block home for cycling at a nearby park around 6pm on Saturday.

Her mother became restless when she did not return by 6.30pm and informed her husband Arvind, an engineer in locomotive workshop. Mahi’s parents went to search for her but could not find her till 10pm. They lodged a missing complaint around midnight.

Police swung into action immediately and SSP Lucknow and SP (north) reached the spot to oversee investigation.SP (North) Anurag Vats formed a team and started inspecting all parks and crossings near the girl’s house. Another team was directed to check footage of CCTVs installed at crossings. Cops found the girl near Bhoothnath in a footage and took the girl’s father along. Arvind spotted Mahi’s cycle parked in front of a park near Gurukul Academy at 2.30am.

“After recovery of bicycle, we checked for CCTVs around the park. The girl was captured by the CCTV installed in Gurukul Academy. The girl was seen parking the cycle and going on foot through the lane around 6.45pm on Saturday. She covered her face and walked away carrying a bag,” Vats said. “She left on her own and was seen moving all alone,” SHO Ghazipur said while adding that it didn’t seem that she was abducted but probe is under way.
