Tragic loss

Sir — The Beechcraft King C90 aircraft crash in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, last week brought to the fore of the fact that authorities should turn their focus on maintaining these aircraft  that are owned by private companies. The aircraft took off from Juhu airstrip for a test run and then crashed near a building site while trying to make an emergency landing. I congratulate the woman pilot who exhibited exemplary dedication to her profession and presence of mind by steering the plane away from the residential area to save peoples’ lives. Safety audit of private chartered airlines must be carried out and the matter should be investigated thoroughly so that such mishaps do not take place in the future.
