AAP MLA Phoolka launches campaign against drugs

LUDHIANA: Seeking to make all villages of his constituency “drug free”, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and MLA Dakha constituency Harvinder Singh Phoolka launched a campaign, ‘Mera Pind Nasha Mukt’ (my village is drug free), here on Sunday.
The AAP leader said that as part of the campaign, youth hooked to drugs will be given free treatment in association with Gyan Sewa Trust. He said a mobile dispensary which has been operating for eight months will be appointing a team of doctors and counsellors who will provide door-to-door services regarding how one can stop themselves from falling prey to drug addiction and also provide free medicines to the ones who are already addicted.

Phoolka said he was planning to start another dispensary wherein a team of doctors will be treating patients suffering from other diseases. He said free treatment, check-ups, tests and medicines will be provided and the councillors will be going from door to door to raise awareness about drug addiction. “The first 20 villages will be served by the first dispensary and the second dispensary will serve others,” he said.

The MLA said that “to let people give up drugs and in order to be healthy, a drive will be started where they will be going to houses and making people aware about the positives of planting trees. “Youngsters who want to be a part of the drive to make our city or area free of drugs will be given training by experts. They will learn the basics,” said Phoolka.

He added that the campaign after focusing on Mera Pind Nasha Mukt, will strive for Mera Halka Nasha Mukt (my constituency is drug free) and Mera Punjab Nasha Mukt (my Punjab is drug free).
