RAYAGADA: Amid reports of suspected dengue cases surfacing in the district, Zilla Swasthya Samiti Chairperson and Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar directed health officials, municipal authorities and corporate houses to take preventive measures in vulnerable areas. This was announced at a sensitisation meeting held on Sunday at JK Pur. The Collector also emphasised on launching cleanliness drive in the dengue-prone areas.

Meanwhile, the district administration has constituted a task force to prevent the outbreak of the disease and launched a massive awareness drive in all parts of the district. Fogging operations are being conducted by Vector-Borne Disease (VBD) consultants on regular basis to kill dengue-causing mosquitoes. Last month, suspected cases of dengue were reported from Birnaranyanpur, Malligaon, Suluva and Munioguda and some other parts of the district.

“NS 1 virus was detected in the blood samples of about 15 to 20 persons in the district. The pathogen is usually found in the bloodstream of people suffering from viral fever. However, the presence of dengue virus can be found in the blood sample of a patient, only after five to seven days of the fever through IgM test,” said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Chandrika Prasad Dash. Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELIZA) test confirms the presence of dengue virus, he added.

A team comprising CDMO, District Malaria Officer BLN Prusty and NHM Project Manager Rajeswar Patnaik visited Suluva village on Sunday to take a stock of the situation. The CDMO said there was no need to panic as the situation was under control.

With people suffering from viral fever in the district, dengue scare has gripped the villages. On Friday, 40-year-old T Mohan died at DHH, Rayagada after suffering from fever.“We were consulting a private doctor for the treatment of my husband. He was being treated with anti-malarial drugs until his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the DHH,” said Padma, the deceased’s wife.
