The city colleges are planning to introduce a set of initiatives in the new academic year to protect the environment and promote love for nature.

Most of the colleges have already introduced the cycle and e-bike project to promote their use in the campus and surrounding areas. An awareness campaign for the new students about the cycle culture and to encourage them to avoid motorized transport and switch to cycles for health and environmental reasons will be run by the colleges during the opening session of the new academic year.

The campaign will be run by the volunteers of the National Service Scheme and the National Cadet Corps. The campaigners will impress upon the students the fact that the benefits of cycling far outweigh the harm from inhaling toxic air loaded with traffic fumes.

To promote cycling culture among students the managements of most colleges have also introduced the credit point system, by which points will be awarded to students who regularly use cycles in the campus and nearby areas.

Talking to the media persons, Madhulika Sharma, a student of the Girls Colleges said that most of the students and staff of the college are willingly participating in the Green Mission by using cycles instead of scooties. A professor of the MLB College said that it might not be possible to ensure that all students reach the college on cycles or make the colleges a ‘no vehicle’ zone, but the college will certainly be promoting the cycle culture inside the campus.

The colleges are also planning to organize Introduction Parties in the new academic year to bring together the seniors and juniors in a friendly atmosphere. The managements hope that these interactive sessions will ensure that the juniors don’t face any humiliations while interacting with their seniors.
