Congress members of the Legislative Council on Sunday submitted a memorandum to AICC general secretary in charge of the State K.C. Venugopal demanding ministerial berth to a senior member of the House.
They also demanded immediate appointment of new State Congress president and appointment of MLCs as heads of various government-owned boards and corporations.
Signed by 20 MLCs
Congress MLCs V.S. Ugrappa, Mohan Kumar Kondaji, and H.M. Revanna called on Mr. Venugopal and submitted a petition signed by 20 MLCs.
They also submitted a copy of it to the former Chief Minister and coordination committee chairman Siddaramaiah.
Sources in the Congress said the appointment of Jaimala, MLC, as Minister for Kannada and Culture has not gone down well with some senior members of the Upper House of the State legislature. Ms. Jaimala happens to be the lone woman Minister in the Cabinet.
Ms. Jaimala also met Mr. Venugopal.
Citing her “inexperience” and arguing that she will not be able to defend the coalition government from the BJP’s onslaught during the legislature session, the MLCs demanded appointment of a senior member of the House as a Minister in the Kumaraswamy government.
Unable to meet party president Rahul Gandhi, who is on tour abroad, the MLCs met Mr. Venugopal and expressed their grievances to him.
