AHMEDABAD: City police said three drug users went on a looting and stabbing spree near a gurdwara on SG Road in the wee hours of Monday.
Two persons suffered serious injuries in the incident while a 29-year-old man from West Bengal died of stab wounds.
Deceased Zulfikar Shaikh, a resident of
Nadia district of West Bengal, was a waiter in a hotel on SG Highway. The two injured were Shubankar Bhaduri, 19, and Subodh Mahanto, 25, police said.
SN Jhala, assistant commissioner of police, A division, said the incident occurred when the three persons, who were under the influence of narcotic drugs, started looting people around them to get money.
"They saw Bhaduri on the service road of SG Highway. They stabbed him on his left thigh and looted his wallet. Around 60 feet ahead, they found Mahanto who was also stabbed by the three persons," Jhala said.
"Later, they found Shaikh some 70 feet away and tried to rob him. He resisted them and so the trio stabbed him multiple times in his stomach and back before fleeing with his cellphone and wallet," Jhala added.
Shaikh died on the spot because of the injuries to his vital organs.
Complainant Bhaduri said the three men, who seemed to be under the effect of narcotic drugs, were desperately seeking money from people. The trio was riding a bike on the service road to loot people.
The three unidentified accused aged between 20 and 25 escaped from the spot.
