No let-up in cases of atrocities, says Seethakka

All-India Mahila Congress general secretary and AP Mahila Congress affairs in-charge Seethakka on Sunday said women had no safety either in the State or in the country at large.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of a meeting of the Mahila Congress State Executive Committee here, Ms. Seethakka referred to the global survey that recently revealed that India was most unsafe for women.

She said there was no let-up in cases of rape, sexual assault, harassment, women trafficking, forced marriage, child marriage, and female infanticide.

“It is disturbing to know that the condition of women in our country is worse than strife-torn nations such as Afghanistan and Syria,” she said.

Later, she launched ‘Shakti’, a mobile phone-based contact initiative of Congress president Rahul Gandhi to establish direct link between the party’s women workers and supporters and the Central leadership.

AP Mahila Congress Committee president Sunkara Padmasri presided over the meeting.

In another development, AICC general secretary and party’s A.P. affairs in-charge Oommen Chandy on Sunday met former Governor K. Rosaiah in Hyderabad.
