Former Dhenkanal MLA Nabin Nanda, who was reportedly missing since Saturday evening from a hotel in Kolkata, was traced on Sunday.

Later, the MLA informed that he was pick-pocketed and lost his mobile phone due to which he could not contact his family.

“I was pick-pocketed in Kolkata after which I chased the miscreant who entered a hotel where a police raid was on. The cops grilled me and since I had no phone, I could not contact my family members. I am completely safe now,” said Nanda. Earlier, the MLA’s  mysterious disappearance under the circumstances, from a hotel in Kolkata in West Bengal, had sent the alarm bells ringing. Nanda, who was supposed to reach Bhubaneswar from Kolkata by flight at 7 am didn’t come. His son Sambit who tried to contact him over the phone, said his father’s cell phone was found to be switched off since the morning.

Nanda had not checked out of the hotel and his luggage was still in the room, had said Sambit before leaving for Kolkata to find out the whereabouts of his father.  A missing complaint was lodged in this regard at the Shakespeare Sarani police station in Kolkata. Sources said Nanda had left for Kolkata on Thursday and was in touch with his family till Friday.

However, the family members failed to contact him since Saturday. Notably, on June 4, unidentified miscreants had hurled bombs at Nanda’s car at Thakurapal village under Gondia block of Dhenkanal district. However, he escaped unhurt.

He had alleged a rival leader’s hand behind the incident.
