Number of girl students at commerce faulty up 5 per cent

VADODARA: More number of girl students have this time taken admission in first year Bachelors of Commerce (B Com) at M S University’s largest faculty – the Faculty of Commerce.

After the first round of on the spot admission process, which concluded recently, a total of 3,423 girls have been admitted at the four units of the faculty against 3,263 boys.

“We have granted admission to total of 6,686 students in first year B Com. And the girls versus boys ratio comes to 52:48,” said dean of Faculty of Commerce professor Dinkar Nayak.

He added that unlike the past, there is five percent jump in number of girl students admitted at the faculty.

Also, compared to last year, the faculty has admitted 200 more students and is expecting that the total number of students enrolled in first year B Com will be 500 more compared to last academic year.

“We will be carrying out the second round of admissions for first year BCom after the results of supplementary exams are declared. The second round is expected to be held after the third week of this month,” he said.

Interestingly, popularity of B Com honours course which the faculty had started as a specialised course is also increasing with each passing year.

“Last year, the cut off percent was 62 %. This year it has increased to 77 %,” he said, adding that there are 180 seats in BCom honours programme.

While the faculty has admitted 1,908 students in the main building, 1,073 students have been admitted in girls college, 2,269 students have been admitted in higher payment unit while another 1,436 students have been granted admission in M K Amin Padra College.
