Minister for Civil Supplies P. Pulla Rao on Sunday said instances of red gram, despatched from the mandal-level stock points to the fair price shops, weighing 1,000 grams (per bag) less than the stipulated 50.60 kg (inclusive of the bag weight) had come to his notice, and steps were being taken to curb the malpractice.
Addressing the media during an inspection of a fair price shop at Labbipet here, Mr. Rao said the quality of sugar was sub-standard at some shops. The companies that supplied inferior quality sugar would be black-listed, he said.
He stated that the government was providing various commodities to the card-holders through the PDS with 95 % public satisfaction as the goal.
Stringent action would be taken against derelict officials and staff of the Civil Supplies Corporation and others responsible for the systemic inefficiencies, he said, adding that two kg of red gram was being sold from Sunday to the card-holders.
