UP will become open defecation free by Oct 2 this year: Yogi Adityanath

Stressing for making Uttar Pradesh Open defection Free (ODF) by October 2 this year Chief Minister yogi Adityanath has asked district magistrates to ensure completion of targets in their respective districts so that State could be declared ODF by Gandhi Jayanti. “The government has set a target to make UP ODF. We need to achieve that target and for that the district magistrates should work diligently. They should take personal interest to ensure that every district achieves its designated target within stipulated time,” Chief Minister while reviewing rural Swachch Bharat Mission and progress in ODF with district magistrates here on Sunday.

Chief Minister said that state and union governments are giving funds for construction of toilets. The officials should ensure that this fund is utilized in a better way through construction of toilets. “If need be government should utilize MNREGA and CRS funds of private companies for construction of toilets in the rural and urban areas of the state,” he said.

He also asked the district magistrates to provide the utilization certificates to the state government immediately so the progress of the scheme could be evaluated on regular basis.

“The schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and construction of toilets will help poors directly. Therefore, DMs should ensure effective implementation of these schemes. They should form teams and send them to villages to personally verify the construction of toilets,” he said. He also asked the DMs to ensure effective implementation government schemes. Maintaining law and order is the priority of the government and DMs should work in tandem with police to achieve this target. The illegal slaughter houses and illegal mining should be stopped. The DMs should also end pilferage of food grains meant for poor under PDS. 

“Keep an eye on the incarcerated criminals as they have a penchant to create trouble from jail. Arrest their side-kicks and the crime rate will automatically come down,” he said and added that DMs should also ensure peaceful Kanwar yatra across state. Issuing a warning he said that DMs should not go for wrong reporting. Send factual report to the government. He also said that DMs should respect elected law makers and good work done in the districts should be highlighted so that people could know about these. Newly appointed Chief Secretary Anoop Chandra pandey also addressed the meeting.
