Aliganj BJP MLA Satyapal Singh Rathaur had a
narrow escape on Monday. Heading to the state capital to meet chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Rathaur met with an accident on
Agra-Lucknow Expressway in UP's Kannauj district.
The accident occurred at around 2:30pm on Monday near Mandi area of Thathiya police jurisdiction, after the driver of the SUV in which MLA and two gunners were travelling lost control and rammed into divider.
Speaking to TOI over phone, MLA Rathaur said, “In an attempt to save a stray dog who was crossing the expressway, my driver Ankur lost control on the vehicle and the car flipped over four times before coming to halt. The car turned turtle, but all the occupants, including me, survived without a bruise as we had fastened our seat belt.”
He said, “Though I often use seat belt, today I realise its true importance. The local police was very supportive and made quick response to rescue us.”
By the time this report was filed, MLA was on his way returning to home. The MLA had an appointment with CM for 4pm at his residence, though later it was cancelled.
Meanwhile, another report of an accident was reported on Agra-Lucknow Expressway 30 km before Thathiya.
At around 5am on Monday morning, a speeding SUV rammed into the rear of a truck near Bhawniyapur village of Gurusahaiganj police jurisdiction of Kannauj district.
In the accident, a woman was killed while her husband and son were injured. The victim hailed from Patna and was returning home after attending a wedding in Delhi.
Station house officer of Gurusahaiganj, Rajbahadur Singh said, “In the accident the woman identified as Beenu Singh was killed and her body was sent for post-mortem, while her husband Sonu Lal and their son Abhishek were admitted in Tirwa medical college.”
Earlier on Sunday, in Kannauj’s Talgram police jurisdiction, an 18 wheel truck ferrying corn from Puralia, Bihar to Gujarat turned turtle and injured two after the driver fall asleep on the steering wheel. The accident occurred at 5am.
Similarly, on Friday night near Sakrawa police outpost of Kannauj district, a speeding car turned turtle injuring four residents of Lucknow who were returning home. One of the victims was additional chief government council of Allahabad high court. The victims were shifted to Saifai medical college.
