A man who bottled his boss after an all day drinking session leaving him needing 18 stitches for a lip wound was spared jail today.

Charles Davies threw a bottle of Desperados beer at Jason Jones and punched workmate Paul Griffiths in the face, who was trying calm Davies down.

Davies, 29, of Aled, Plas Madoc, Wrexham, attacked the men at the Lloyds Bar in Wrexham last December on a works night out.

Mold Crown Court court heard Mr Jones was the boss of JE Construction in Wrexham, which Davies worked for at the time.

Davies and colleagues had gone out for a drink in Bangor-on-Dee earlier before returning to Wrexham.

But in the Lloyds Bar, Davies became disruptive and started pressing the fruit machine keys which another colleague was playing.

Eventually Mr Jones asked Davies to leave because of his behaviour. At this point Davies became belligerent and said: “You have got a business, so what? I don’t care about my job.”

He then attacked Mr Jones by throwing the bottle and hit Mr Griffiths who was trying to get him to “see sense”.

Although he apologised by text the next day, Davies was still being aggressive when asking for outstanding wages saying “I know where you both live. See what’s coming.”

Davies pleaded guilty to the unlawful wounding of Mr Jones and the common assault of Mr Griffiths.

Judge Niclas Parry sentenced Davies to 18 months in jail, suspended for two years and ordered him to carry out 300 hours unpaid work. He must also pay Mr Jones £1,000 in compensation.

Davies was also given a restraining order not to approach Mr Jones and banned from going into licensed premises until January 2 2019.

Judge Parry said: “On a busy licenced premises, you wounded a man using a weapon and he had 18 stitches to a facial injury and you punched a man who trying to make you see sense and these involved work colleagues.”

The court heard Davies had previous convictions for violence, but his last was six years ago. His twin brother had died and his mother had also passed away last year. In 2008 he had saved a neighbour from a fire.
