Guwahati : In a tragic incident, an elderly couple allegedly committed suicide at their rented house in A.T. Road Sivasagar. The deceased couple identified as Rajani Khargharia (62) and Ruby Khargharia (58) was recovered dead by their neighbors on Sunday. They have stated that the couple had been going through a mental trauma as their son, who is an ONGC employee, had been negligent towards his parents especially his ailing mother when they were having problems financially. It may be stated that the couple were once acclaimed producers of a mobile theatre in Assam along with being producers of a daily soap opera. There death has triggered sensation in Sivasagar. Police is carrying out an investigation. Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that one must not forget humanity. “We are all for manuhe manuhor babe,” said Sonowal.
The Khargaria couple was going through a severe financial crisis and their only son was not taking care of his ailing parents, as stated in the suicide note left behind by them. They were also not able to buy medicines and pay house rents for quite some time now. Rajani stated in the suicide note that their only son had repeatedly cheated them and his daughter-in-law insulted him when he had approached them for monetary assistance for his ailing wife. Deceased Rajani’s youngest daughter claimed that her father sold off their property to secure a job for her brother at the ONGC. Rajani was the owner of the famous Kalanchupar Hotel located at Central Market in Sivasagar town where he used to offer free meals to various student leaders and artistes of Assam at one point of time. He was also a proprietor of a mobile theatre company. According to latest reports, the son and the daughter-in-law are presently absconding and Sivasagar Police have started a manhunt to trace them.It may be stated that the couple were once acclaimed producers of a mobile theatre in Assam along with being producers of a daily soap opera.
