KOCHI: In a major headache to the district Congress leadership, the issues related to the administration in UDF-controlled local bodies is brewing across the district. The infighting among the leaders in a majority of local self government institutions has put the DCC leadership in a fix as they could not effectively intervene and resolve the issues amicably. Local leaders and workers feel the intervention of top leaders is worsening the matters in various local bodies.
In Udayamperoor grama panchayat, the president slapped the woman vice-president. Based on the petition of the vice-president a case was registered against the president. During this time, out of the 16 members, 12 demanded the resignation of the president. Adding fuel to the fire, the DCC has issued a notice to the members asking to move a non-confidence motion against the vice-president. Earlier, the DCC president had asked her to quit, which she rejected.
DCC president T J Vinod said the issues were settled in a majority of the local bodies. “In Udayamperoor, the DCC has issued a notice for a non-confidence motion as the vice-president was not ready to quit. The UDF has issued a direction to follow the agreement among the constituents”, he said. At present, Congress-led UDF is controlling the administration of about 40 grama panchayats, seven municipalities out of 14 and the district panchayat.
