GHAZIABAD: A seven-member committee has been formed to
probe the
attack on a BSP
councillor who was allegedly beaten up with iron rods inside the chief engineer’s chamber in the
Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation office on Friday.
The committee will have in it two officials from the GMC and five councillors across party lines. There has been no arrest in the case, though six persons, including the contractor whose aides are accused of attacking councillor Dilshad Malik, have been named in the FIR.
“The seven-member committee will comprise two GMC officials, Pramod Kumar and Shivpujan Yadav, and five councillors from different parties,” said Asha Sharma, the mayor. The councillors who will be part of the panel are Anand Choudhary (BSP), Zakir Ali Saifi (Congress), Kallan (SP) and Rajev Sharma and Rajendr Singh Tewatia of the BJP.
In the wake of the attack, the mayor has also decided to enhance security on the GMC office premises. “I have asked for two guards to be deployed on each floor of the office. Each visitor should be frisked from now,” Sharma said. “We are also planning to install more CCTV cameras,” she added.
