Heavy rain, damaging winds on the cards for Perth and the South West
Perth and the South West will be battered by heavy rain and damaging winds as a cold front moves through on Monday.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning on Sunday afternoon for parts of the Midwest-Gascoyne, the Perth metropolitan area, South West and the lower South West.
Locations which may be affected include Busselton, Bunbury, Collie, Geraldton, Mandurah, Manjimup, Margaret River, Moora and Perth.
Duty forecaster Gianni Colangelo said certain areas around the state could get up to 80 millimetres of rain.
"The larger rainfall areas are about 50 to 70 kilometres north and south of Perth," he said.
"Perth is sort of in the middle of these two bullseye larger rainfall areas."
But Perth won't be left out, with between 20 and 35 millimetres of rain expected for the metropolitan area.
"Some spots could even get figures closer to 50 millimetres," Mr Colangelo said.
"Light rain will be setting in over Perth in the early hours of Monday, which will increase during the day and culminate in the late afternoon."
This weather is not unusual for this time of year but could damage homes and make travel dangerous, the bureau said.
Flash flooding is expected to develop south-west of a line from Bunbury to Walpole after 5am on Monday morning as the rain band moves through.
Damaging winds of up to 100km/h are also likely in the area.
Rain should start to ease over southern parts of the warning area by Monday evening.
Further cold fronts and a low are expected to affect southern and south-west parts of WA over the coming days with the potential for another severe weather on Tuesday and Wednesday.
