A two-day conference on arthroscopy named “Shoulder-Knee Con 2018” was inaugurated at Velammal Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (VMCHRI) here on Saturday.
The conference, which is being organised by Tamil Nadu Arthroscopy Society (TAS) in association with VMCHRI, will focus on techniques in knee arthroscopy, shoulder arthroscopy, sports injuries and shoulder replacement surgery.
K.N. Subramanian, president, TAS, said that the field of orthopaedics had evolved tremendously in the last couple of decades, providing cure to medical conditions that were considered incurable before.
“If a sports person gets injured, it was earlier seen as the end of his career. Today, with arthroscopic interventions, the person can easily get back to sports,” he said.
Inaugurating the conference, M.V. Muthuramalingam, Chairman, VMCHRI, said that the hospital had performed around 2,500 orthopaedic surgeries in the past one year alone and was playing a leading role in providing cure for patients with orthopaedic illnesses.
