Encroachments near temple tank should be cleared: Madras HC

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has ordered removal of encroachments from the banks of the tank of the Sri Vengeeswarar temple in Puliyur, Vadapalani.

The first bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice P T Asha gave the direction, while disposing of a PIL petition from J Mohanraj, recently.

The HR&CE department shall immediately take steps for removal of all encroachments and for restoration of the tank, in accordance with law. There can be no question of any construction on a waterbody. The police, revenue and corporation authorities shall be bound by this order and render all necessary assistance to the HR&CE department to carry out the task, the bench said.
