Govt to bring Bill to ban sale of agri land to non-farmers

PANAJI: The state government is working on drafting bills to facilitate contract farming and ban sale of agricultural land to non-agriculturists in the state.

Top sources said that both the bills are likely to be introduced by the revenue department during the forthcoming monsoon session of Goa assembly which will begin from July 19.

Recently, the central government unveiled a model law on contract farming and the state government is working on the same lines, sources said. The new legislation on contract farming will allow corporates, individuals and institutions to tie up with farmers and cultivate their land.

Another legislation would also be introduced in the assembly banning sale of agricultural land to non-agriculturists.
