Reginaldo: CM should act tough to put an end to politician-backed illegalities

MARGAO: Congress MLA of Curtorim  Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, on  Saturday, while  praising the  Superintendent of Police  Chandan  Chaudhary for  raiding a  matka den, alleged to have ‘involvement of  relatives of a politician from  North Goa’, in Pernem,  said that the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar  should   act tough to put an end   to politician-backed illegalities in the state.

Addressing the media in Margao on the  issue of beef traders in the state,  Lourenco said “The Chief Minister Parrikar was asking the Congress ministers directly, as to how much  hafta they  get from the  gamblers in Goa.  Now,  I want to  ask the  same  question to the Chief Minister – How much his  party leaders being paid for allowing  such  illegalities?”

He further demanded with the Chief Minister to act on such illegalities before the commencement of the forthcoming Assembly session.

The  Curtorim MLA  praised Chaudhary  for her bold step in  raiding the matka den, where large scale gambling was going on secretly.

“I praise the police officer for her brave act. There are  rumours that  those in power are trying to  transfer her. It should not be done, and if it is done, I will  raise the issue in the Assembly,”  Lourenco said.

He  recalled that the BJP leaders and the supporters  raised  hue and cry  when  Congress  legislator’s house was raided  allegedly for  matka activities.

“Today, the same people are keeping their mouth shut,” he added.

Lourenco further said that he  had received a  representation from  beef traders association  about the traders being harassed by the cow vigilantes.
