Surat: Two men from Rajkot and Amreli districts were booked at Kamrej police station on Saturday for duping seven youths from Kamrej of Surat district and Amreli district of Rs17 lakh by promising them jobs in Indian Navy. The accused also provided one of the victims a forged appointment letter.
Naresh Humbal, a resident of Amreli, and his uncle Ramesh Bhagataayar, a resident of Rajkot, were booked at Kamrej police station for cheating and forgery. The complaint was lodged by Sangita Vaghasiya whose two sons were victims of the fraud.

The complainant family had met Bhagataayar during their visit to Saurashtra in May 2014. Bhagataayar told Vaghasiya that his nephew Humbal was in Indian Navy and can help get a job for Rs3 lakh. Vaghasiya’s two sons showed interest in the job and informed Bhagataayar that their five friends in Amreli too wanted to join the Indian Navy.

The victims between July and November 2014 paid Rs17 lakh to Humbal in cash and through bank transfers. Later Humbal provided a job offer letter on mobile phone to one of Vaghasiya’s sons. The victim went to complete the joining formalities at the Indian Navy office in Jamnagar when he was told that his appointment letter was fake.

Vaghasiya and other victims contacted Humbal and were told that the recruitment for the period was over now and that they will be provided jobs during the next recruitment cycle which will occur in 2016. But when the victims did not get jobs in 2016 too, they started to demand their money back. Having failed to recover their money from the accused, the complainant finally approached the police.
