Family, villagers protest as cops fail to nab truck driver in accident case

Nagpur: Around 50 villagers and family members of accident victims launched a protest on Sunday morning in front of Hingna police station against the cops’ failure to arrest a truck driver, who fled after ramming into four people riding on two motorcycles. Two of the persons riding on the bikes were killed. Protesters burned tyres and raised slogans against the police department. Hingna police have registered a case of unlawful assembly against 13 protesters.
The protesters had first gathered at the hospital to receive the bodies of the deceased.

A speeding truck had rammed into two two-wheelers, including a bike, in a head-on collision at Mangligaon Road on Saturday night. Two people riding on the bike were killed in the accident. The deceased were identified as Pramod Bochar and Amar Uyke, while the two people riding on another moped, Ganvir Khandare and his father Dekhlal, were injured.

Amar died on spot while Pramod, who sustained injuries, succumbed at a private hospital. Both the two-wheelers were coming from Mangli village towards Nagpur while the truck was coming from the opposite direction. Both the deceased used to work at a grocery shop in Hingna and were returning home when the accident happened. The killer truck had fled the spot after the accident. Hingna police had registered a case of death due to negligence against the truck driver.

In another incident, 32-year-old Manoj Naydu died after the bike he was riding rammed into a stationary tipper on Saturday on Wardha Road. According to cops, the tipper driver had parked his vehicle on the road side without turning on the parking lights. Manoj, a resident of Vaishali Nagar, was going home when he rammed into the tipper as it was parked in darkness. Beltarodi police have registered a case of death due to negligence against the driver of the tipper, who fled the spot soon after the accident.
