PUNE: Passengers on board a Jet Airways flight from Pune to Delhi on Friday evening alleged that they had to sit inside the plane in pitch darkness and without air-conditioning for around 30 minutes after it landed in the national capital because the doors of the aircraft remained shut.

A video footage uploaded on Twitter by a passenger on board the flight (9W 786) showed passengers shouting at the crew to switch on the lights and get them out of the aircraft. “There was no light in the and air-conditioning for 30 minutes. So, passengers had to face a very hard time,” Pranav Mishra, who posted the video, told TOI.

The flight, scheduled to take off from Pune at 5.40pm on Friday, departed at 7.02pm and landed at Delhi airport around 9.30pm.

An airline official, however, said the lights were switched off for only 10 minutes because the rules state that lights must be turned off during landing. The power was restored soon after.

The Jet Airways official said, “It was a night flight and, therefore, the lights were switched off. Once the flight landed, the ground power unit was connected, and lights and air-conditioner started working.”
