Doctors remove 15 kg ovarian mass from 70-yr-old woman

A large ovarian mass weighing 15 kg was removed from the abdomen of a 70-year-old woman by a team of doctors at HCG Panda Cancer Hospital hear.

CUTTACK:  A large ovarian mass weighing 15 kg was removed from the abdomen of a 70-year-old woman by a team of doctors at HCG Panda Cancer Hospital hear. The patient, Badani Martha, a native of a Khurda, had come to the hospital for a check-up after suffering from abdominal discomfort and dissension for nearly six months.

From the first month, she felt tightness in the abdomen. On a check-up at government and private hospitals, she was diagnosed with ovarian cyst arising from the right side. As the discomfort increased she approached HCG Panda Cancer Hospital which found a large mass involving whole of the abdomen and required immediate surgery.

On operation, the doctors found a huge mass of 30x25 cm occupying whole abdomen and squishing her other organs. The mass could be cut out totally and intact. Post surgery, Badani was discharged on 7th postoperative day. The entire treatment was done under Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana, performed by a team of expert surgeons.
