LUCKNOW: Gosainganj police arrested four Persian-speaking highway robbers on Saturday and claimed to have busted a gang involved in targeting ten drivers and looting their trucks.

Fateh Ali, Wasim Ali, Shahzada Ali and Salim Ali, all of Thakurganj were arrested and Rs 10,500 recovered from them.

SP (rural) Gaurav Grover said, "All members of the gang speak Persian as they are of Iranian origin. Their ancestors had settled in Lucknow several decades ago. They used their skill to speak Persian as a tool to trap truck drivers and mostly targeted trucks from other states," Grover said.

The gang members used to stop trucks drivers and conversed in Persian among themselves while pretending that they do not know Hindi properly. The miscreants used to loot cash from drivers by attacking or drugging them and then fled with the truck.
