VADODARA: Six residents of Gajadra village in Waghodiya taluka were booked for rioting in connection with an incident where a native of West Bengal was thrashed by them and others over suspicion that he was molesting a woman in the village on Saturday.

The complaint was registered by police against Anil Parmar, Bhayji Parmar, Gopal Parmar, Neel Vasava, Thakor Parmar and Ghanshyam Parmar when it was verified that the victim Ladun Hakam Kisku had approached a woman in the village for drinking water. Cops were informed by the village sarpanch that Kisku, who hails from Paschim Medinipur, was held by the villagers over suspicion that he was molesting a woman.

Kisku was then taken to Waghodiya police station where police learnt that he had walked into a house of a woman in the village asking for water. When the woman shouted for help, Kisku ran out of the house but hearing the former’s screams, villagers held him and tied him with a rope. They later thrashed him as he was not able to understand any language except his mother tongue, police said.

As he had received injuries on his body in the assault on him, police checked a video of his thrashing and zeroed in on the six accused. Kisku used to work in a tyre manufacturing factory in Waghodiya. Earlier reports said that the man was taken for a child-lifter by the villagers.
