IMD hints at slight rise in rain

PUNE: After witnessing subdued rainfall activity for some time, the city may see a marginal increase in rain in the next few days with the India Metrological Department (IMD) forecasting one or two showers a day throughout the week.

The IMD has issued a heavy-rainfall warning at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra on July 5 and 6. The state’s coastal belt will continue to record heavy showers. Heavy showers are also likely in Konkan and Goa between July 2 and 6.

“A cyclonic circulation is existing over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and its neighbourhood. A feeble off-shore trough at the mean sea level from the south Maharashtra coast to Lakshadweep area also persists,” the IMD daily weather report stated.

These weather conditions may lead to rainfall in Pune and other parts of the state.

The dry weather and clear skies have also impacted the day’s temperature in Pune. The city the maximum temperature at 31.6ºC, which was 2.5ºC above normal.

The light drizzles in the last couple of days, however, kept the night temperature slightly low. Sunday’s minimum temperature was 20.4ºC, which 2.1ºC less than normal.
