THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When an alleged teenage love ended up on a sore note, the boy broke into his school laboratory, stole concentrated acid and threw it on his ex-lover who was travelling in a train. The attack happened in Guruvayoor Express at Kottarakkara railway station on Saturday afternoon. The Kottarakkara police have arrested Arun, 18, of Maniyar near Punalur in connection with the case.

The girl, who is also aged 18, has been admitted to the Medical College Hospital with serious burn injuries on her face. Another passenger, Aloysius, also suffered minor burn injuries after a few drops of acid fell on his body too. Kottarakkara circle inspector B Gopakumar said that the incident happened when the girl was returning to her home in Punalur from Kollam, where she had been attending a coaching class. The co-passengers apprehended the accused and handed him over to the police.

''He has told us that it was their failed relationship that provoked him to commit such a crime," the inspector said. tnn
