Jharpark — an autonomous body of Department of Forest, GoJ will soon take up the charge of maintenance of all major city parks. Recently, Jharpark had given the responsibility to Indian Institute of Management — Ranchi for recruiting external agencies which will prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the city parks. According to the sources of Forest Department, by far, three agencies have come forward who will assist Jharpark in the venture for revamping ‘Green Lungs’.

Starting the renovation work with two major parks – Sido-Kanhu and Nakshatra Van here in Capital City, Jharpark, in the days to come will cover all the prime parks across the State that are at present being maintained either by the Department of Forest or by the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

“We are targeting all the parks of the State. Starting from the Capital City, we will be renovating the parks with all facilities in phase wise manner. IIM-R is providing us the technical support in selecting the competent agencies. In the next two years, almost 80 per cent parks will be renovated. The renovation tasks of Sido-Kanhu including Nakshatra Van had already been initiated a month back,” said an official of the Forest Department.

Also, the officer of the Department of Forest stated that besides decking up the parks with basic services, Jharpark aims to make recreational spots –plastic free zones. “Since long major ‘green covers’ of different cities are craving for maintenance; we will be preparing the data of all parks covering details like area, its unique component, facilities available there etc,” an official asserted.

Besides restoring the existing parks, Jharpark in the days to come will be creating green pockets in quite a good numbers in the urban vicinities. “As per the availability of locations and with the consent of the local body, creation of small parks is also on the cards. After completing the work of old parks spread over acres of land, small parks will be restored whereas new parks will be developed inside colonies.”
