PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: In a relief to numerous residents living in demarcated blue line areas, the state urban development department has directed the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to regularize constructions along the river banks under the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act. Major areas affected by the decision include Wakad, Punavale, Akurdi, Nigdi, Pimple Nilakh, Pimple Gurav, Sangvi, Kasarwadi, Chinchwad, Mamurdi, Thergaon, Kiwale and Rahatni along Pavana river. Along Indrayani river, the areas include Dighi, Charholi, Talawade, Dudulgaon, Wadmukhwadi and Borhadewadi.
Environment activist Vikas Patil termed the move an adjustment created under pressure from political leaders. He pointed out that in case of Indrayani river, many people would be affected if the river floods as there is no dam to control the flow of water.
