Four more tigers to arrive at Satkosia by December

After successful translocation of two tigers from Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia Tiger Reserve, the State Government is now trying to bring four more tigers by December in a phased manner.

ANGUL:   After successful translocation of two tigers from Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia Tiger Reserve, the State Government is now trying to bring four more tigers by December in a phased manner. Two of the tigers will be brought from Kanha and Bandhabgarh. The other two tigers will be brought from Panna Tiger Reserve.

Sources said the Union Minister of Environment and Forest, the National Tiger Conservation Authority and the Madhya Pradesh Governmnet had granted permission for the translocation of the remaining tigers. Meanwhile, the tiger and the tigress which had been lodged in an enclosure at Satkosia on June 21 and 28 respectively, were behaving normally.

“The tigress was provided with a prey on Thursday. She had consumed it. On Saturday night, another prey will be given to it. We are constantly monitoring the behaviour of this pair. They will be released into the tiger reserve spread over 1,000 sq km after we are assured of their good health. Currently, they are staying in 5 sq km enclosure with all necessary facilities,” Additional Chief Conservator of Forest of Angul circle, S Panda, said.
