NABARANGPUR: A six-month-old baby boy of Khutiguda village in Papadahandi block died on Thursday after being branded with hot iron bangle by his mother to cure him of breathing problem. As per reports, the baby son of Nakul Bhatra was suffering from breathing problem three weeks back. Instead of taking him to the hospital, his mother Janaki opted for the traditional treatment of branding the baby with hot iron bangles on his stomach. When the parents did not see any sign of recovery, they took him to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Dabugam.

Later, the baby was shifted to Koraput District Headquarters hospital (DHH) after his health condition deteriorated. However, they brought back the child home five days back as they had no money to stay in Koraput. Meanwhile, an anganwadi worker of the village filed an FIR against Janaki at local police station over the matter. Police also recorded their statements.
