Power production begins in Seventh stage of KTPS

HYDERABAD:  In a major achievement for the state government, power production commenced in the 800-MW seventh stage of the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) on Saturday night after it was completed in a record 40 months – eight months earlier than the target date.

After the commencement of the seventh stage of KTPS, the total availability of power in the state crossed 16,000 MW. On top of that, since the work was completed within the stipulated time, the power that would be supplied from here will cost less.

This would result in Rs 300 crore financial benefit. An action plan has been prepared which says that permanent power production will commence from the last week of July, after trial run for a month. 
On Feb 2015, the construction commenced at an estimated cost of Rs 5,700 crore. According to rules laid down by the Central Electricity Agency (CEA), any new power plant construction should be completed within 48 months of its commencement.

The construction of Kothagudem Thermal Power Station was completed in 40 months, creating a record. CM KCR complimented the efforts of GENCO saying that the power plants were given to public sector undertakings to expedite works and to maintain quality production. CM also congratulated CMD Prabhakar Rao and other staff of GENCO for making Telangana a powersurplus state. GENCO CMD Prabhakar Rao thanked the CM for his continuous support and said that the Bhadradri and Yadadri plants would be completed in a similar manner.

TRANSCO and GENCO Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhakar Rao formally launched the power production in Paloncha and synchronised the power grid. BHEL ED, General Manager Srinivasa Rao were present.
