Surat: A court in Ahwa of Dang district remanded the woman arrested for her role in usurping government funds in police custody for three days on Friday. Police had requested 10 days remand for the woman, but the court didn’t see the need for it.
Police have seized from accused Bhaveshree Davda’s possession many visiting cards, a pen drive, 13 cheque books of different banks, nine cell phones, one laptop and six cars, including a Mercedes-Benz and a BMW.

Davda was arrested from her house in Tighra area of Navsari on Thursday. Two of her associates Ankit Mehta and Krunal Solanki were also booked by police for their role in usurping government funds and farmer’s money by faking corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Dang. Davda, considered close to some officers and politicians, together with her associates managed to get an office in a government building in Dang after offering Rs25 crore of CSR funds to the authorities. The trio floated a fake company showing its headquarters to be in Dubai and got the agriculture department to float tenders for distribution of plants and giving training to farmers.

Mahesh Patel, deputy director of farmer training centre, lodged a complaint against them on May 31 after they failed to release funds as promised to the government, subsequent to which the trio was booked for cheating, criminal breach of trust and other offences under Indian Penal Code. The investigation into the racket is being done by Ahwa police, who had earlier unearthed Universal Robo Innovation Company, a bogus company floated by the trio. GS Malik, inspector general of police, told TOI, “Involvement of government officials has not been found in the scam so far.”
