Police: Sitamarhi DWO eliminated for unearthing huge fund embezzlement

PATNA: The Sitamarhi police sources on Friday said that the district welfare officer (DWO) Shubh Narayan Dutta was eliminated as he had unearthed large scale embezzlement of government funds in the districts which was going on for last several years.


Dutt (57), was shot dead during an evening stroll near his rented accommodation at Bhaw Prasad Lane at Kailash Puri Colony under Dumra police station area in the district on May 31. Three assailants on a bike with covered face had reached near Dutt and indiscriminately opened fire on him. At least three empty cartridges of 9mm were recovered from the spot.

A senior police officer of Sitamarhi police, on condition of anonymity, told TOI that Dutt had caught huge embezzlement of government funds which is mean for development of government schools and students.

“We are securitizing files of social welfare department which was under Dutt’s possession before he was killed. The files clearly indicate that he had caught major scam,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said that Mohammad Ali Ansari (45), a contractual teacher with Urdu Madhya Vidyalaya at Rajopatti in the district surrendered before a court in the district on Friday. He said that Ansari’s name had surfaced during the course of investigation and he was evading arrest.

“It now it has surfaced that Ansari was one of the kingpins in the embezzlement and government funds were being transferred into bank accounts on Ansari and his relatives’ name,” the officer said.

“Ansari’s wife is a district level leader of the BJP,” he said.

He said prior to Ansari, three other accused including one of the main shooters, were arrested till now.

“One Arun Kumar alias Arun Bhagat (24) was arrested from the district on June 20 while on the same day, Ramji Rai and Sohan Thakur alias Mohan Thakur were arrested from Kurji Balupar under Digha police station area in Patna,” he said adding Rai was the main shooter in the case.

He said it was Ansari who had given the contract (supari) to Rai for eliminating the officer.

“The contract was of Rs 5 lakh out of which Rs 2 lakh was paid to Rai by Ansari after Dutt was murdered,” he said.

A 9mm pistol and its six live cartridges along with three costly cell phones were also recovered from Rai’s possession during his arrest.
