DLO issues notice to labour contractor

District Labour Officer Dileswar Khakha issued a show cause notice on Tuesday to Papu Khan, a labour contractor, who cheated Subarnapur migrant workers of their wages totaling Rs 6 lakh.

As per sources, two labour contractors, Santosh Deep of Aambahali Village and Papu Khan of Kantabanji in Bolangir district had taken 17 people of six families of Kudherkanta and Sunapali villages of Dunguripali block to Banagiri in Hydrabad for works in AAS Bricks.

Santosh and Papu had promised them to give  Rs 25,000 each and gave  Rs 6,000 per each family in advance. The labourers were not paid wage by the bricks owner after nine months of working. Employer Jagan Seth sent them safely to Kantabanji by train and told them that Papu Khan had been already paid  Rs 6 lakh out of  Rs 6.50 lakh towards their wage.

After reaching at home, while the labourers went to Papu’s house and asked about the money, Papu got berserk and assaulted them. He also threatened them to kill them.

The victim workers are Subasini Deep, Arjun Deep, Sudam Barik, Sushil Nag, Gokul Nag, Rukuni Deep and Jati Nag. They lodged a complaint with the District Labour Officer on the matter. When contacted District Labour Officer (DLO) Khakha said Papu Khan had no labour invoice licence and strong action would be taken against him.
