K. Raghupati Bhat, MLA, said on Thursday that 500 houses for the poor had been sanctioned for four slum areas in Udupi city, including Kodankur Balram Nagar, Kodavoor Palekatte, and Indira Nagar.
He was chairing a meeting of the Panchayat Development Officers, Village Assistants, and Engineers of Udupi Assembly Constituency at the taluk panchayat hall, here.
Mr. Bhat said these houses would be constructed for poor persons under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana. It would be financed by the Union government, he said.
Some PDOs said that the website for registering new names for ration cards had been stopped owing to the model code of conduct during the Assembly elections. But it had still not started operating and this was creating problems as both the inclusion of new names and any corrections in the ration card had to be done online, they said.
Mr. Bhat said he would bring the matter to the notice of the Ministry of Food and Civil Supplies in Bengaluru.
A PDO from Havanje Gram Panchayat said there was no provision for amending any details in the software for housing schemes for the poor. When any amendment was done by the beneficiaries, it immediately gave the result ‘name duplicated’. The only solution was to have a provision to cancel the existing name and apply afresh. However, this provision was not there in the existing software, he said. Mr. Bhat said that he would take up this matter with the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Development Corporation.
