With the onset of monsoon in the Capital, Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal, on Thursday directed local bodies and other agencies to intensify vector-control measures in the city.
The L-G also asked the authorities to ensure coordination with neighbouring States pertaining to the preparedness of measures taken to combat diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya.
The meeting chaired by Mr. Baijal was attended by Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, and other civic body officials.
“The L-G has directed for the intensification of vector-control activities and community awareness activities in identifies high-risk wards, underprivileged areas, unauthorised colonies, JJ clusters and construction sites” the Raj Niwas said.
‘Public awareness’
The statement further said, “The L-G has directed the intensification of vector-control measures by field staff or local bodies [Domestic Breeding Checkers] and also distribution of IEC material by the local bodies through DBCs for public awareness at the time of their visit to households.” He also asked the authorities to motivate resident welfare associations to participate in the prevention of mosquito breeding. “Community leaders and field level agencies to also be involved in generating awareness in the community,” the statement read.
The L-G has further directed offices and institutes to designate nodal officers for the purpose of carrying out vector-borne control related activities. District Magistrates have also been directed to hold regular meetings with the concerned stakeholders to review the situation in the respective districts. Meanwhile, hospitals have been directed to ensure the availability of sufficient stock of test kits and medicines for the treatment of the diseases, said Raj Niwas.
