PANAJI: The Congress on Friday condemned the statement of Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, likening Indira Gandhi to Hitler. Party spokesperson Ramakant Khalap said Gandhi had unleashed a war against poverty, unlike Hitler who massacred thousands of Jews at concentration camps. He further told reporters that she had apologised to the people after the Emergency, something Hitler never did.

Khalap mocked the BJP for being “scared” of the patriotic legacy left behind by Gandhi. He said the saffron party was trying to create a fear psychosis that the Congress would impose Emergency if it came back to power. “The Congress stands for uplifting all people,” he said, adding that it would win both seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
